BEST PLACE TO PLAY GOLF 2017
PIPER’S LANDING YACHT AND COUNTRY CLUB, 6160 SW Thistle Terrace, Palm City, 283.7000, www.piperslanding,com
Golfers who play Piper’s Landing’s championship golf course sometimes like to say it feels like it’s their own personal golf course. It comes close. The course offers six different skill levels for people with all abilities and tee times can be arranged to suit each player’s needs. The 6,922-yard course winds through graceful palm trees, oak hammocks and tropical flowering foliage. Originally designed by Joe Lee, it was redesigned a few years ago by well-known golf course architect Gene Bates, who at one time worked under Jack Nicklaus. The $4 million renovation turned it into the lush and beautiful course it is today. The redesign included improvements that allow it to drain within hours after a typical Florida rainfall. “It has a championship golf course that is excellently maintained,” says one reviewer on the Yelp review site. Piper’s Landing offers lessons from a PGA-certified instructor, plenty of tournaments and popular leagues, a golf shop and carts. Cart paths are charming coquina shell. The clubhouse was completely renovated in a project that took three-quarters of a year to complete. While playing, golfers can also keep their eye out for wildlife and perhaps capture a photo or two to bring home.
